Travel:Perdepera Resort, Northeast Sardina.Oct. 14-16/2024

Updated: 6 days ago

A continuation of a trip which started on Sept 10th with visit to the UK, then Corsica

Corsica to Sardinia 9/29 (here)

Galurra to Pula. 10/.3 (here)

Caligari 10/8-14. (here)

Sadly we left Cagliari behind and headed toward the Northeast part of Sardinia were the family was due to stay for a week at a Northeastern Beach Resort .

Cagliari

Hwy 125 which routes up Northeast and parallel to the rugged coast leads and connects through a long set of tunnels and bridges

The hilly landscape dotted by colorful shades of vegetation rise into more majestic landscape with the route further up north north

Tended Vineyards roll down, and ships roam the steep landscape

The Eastern Cost of Sardinia

Nowhere else in Sardinia is nature as overwhelming a force, as it is in the wild

Eastern coast

It is characterized by low shores, imperious limestone mountains that roll down to the Golfo di Orosei’s , inaccessible cliffs, overlooking the startling aquamarine waters,

Wild sheep, donkeys and wild boar roam freely in the woods of strawberry trees, holly oaks and oaks with the royal eagle, which nests fly above them on the highest peaks.

The golden picturesque stretch of coastline beaches, some doted with pine trees.,we saw only upon entering the resort.

This Sheep Flock was following a shepherd driving a Toyota.. modern times..

Località Perd'e Pera, 0782 24081

Situated between the Marina di Cardedue and south of Arbatax, the resort we picked at a last minute notice, at the center of the eastern coast, is located in the area of the former province of Ogliastra,

From the air photos the nature landscape looks stunning

The area is considered one of the most beautiful pristine coasts. surrounded by an unspoiled Mediterranean landscape. The nature landscape is stunning and also offers ideal vantage points for nature lovers or hikers.

However the huge and spread out "Kibbutz style"Resort itself ,which attracts large organized tourists' groups, mainly from Europe, was not at all to our liking, nor had met our family's expectation..Hadley lighten up at night, I would get lost in the labyrinth of poorly marked concentric paths, searching to find the way back to my room..

Perdepera Resort takes its name from the locality of the same name in the municipality of Cardedu. The name "Perd'e Pera" literally means "lost stone" and refers to the dramatic rocky formation that stretches along and above the edge of the beach,

The very green gardened resort consists of 131 rooms grouped in terraced typical Mediterranean style not that attractive villas, with patio an garden, The rooms are modest and equipped minimally. There are 3 pools , child center and many sport activities. Overall, except the pools, it lacks in charm and beauty.

Having breakfast, which on the average was only o.k, at the huge badly configured, dinning room, took away from the fun, also due to the elongated formed lines.

As the dinner food at the Perdepera Resort was not eatable by our fine-shmaker family,'s standards, and because the selection of restaurants in the near by surrounding was almost non existent, and the few reasonable were far from the resort, we had to venture for a longer drive up north to Arbatax. to have dinner.

The beach- Spiaggia di Perd'e Pera the only best part of the resort location. is a picturesque stretch of golden coastline with crystal-clear, turquoise water great for. swim and snorkel,

However the wide beach is used for playing beach Volley Ball. During our stay it was fully occupied by a squad of German speaking/shouting Volley Ball teams, all staying at the resort., and apparently returning there every October.

So that was the" last straw that broke the Camel back" for us, and made our minds to

depart that resort, as early as possible.

A small village, residential area emerged in the middle of the 20th c inhabited by displaced families who abandoned their village of Gairo Vecchia due to violent flood , and moved to this new area, close

to the resort.

Further away up north is

A small town of red rocks and of about 5000 inhabitants, 25 minutes drive away from the resort.

The origin of the name Arbatax may have derived from an Arabic word, which means "14th Tower" referring nearby watchtower built by the Spaniards to protect the territory from the incursion of Arab pirates. Once a dangerous place, and scene of pirate attacks, it is now a tourist attraction around its port and the slopes of the promontory of Capo Bellavista, dominated by a lighthouse,

,

The one Restaurant we had dinner at:

Bonobo - Tortoli

piazza sindaco porra,0782 209442

Tortoli is a charming town amid a stunning and very rugged coastal landscape

Departing the Resort

On the day we "escaped" the resort, after only 2 nights stay 0ur daughter -Inbal set her heart on taking a walk through the regions known Grotta Su Marmuri - Cave

The Cave is situated very high up at the dramatic mountainous landscape

A steep curvy road between rocky outcrops and deep gorges. up in the mountains leads to the cave

The following picturesque villages we passed on our drive up to the cave

An inland mountainous ancient village with great vistas, in the Northeast of about 3,000 inhabitants, encircled by the unusual rocky formations of the high plains: known for the production of a particular type of wine, called Cannonau di Jerzu.

The small village lies in the most inland part of the province of Ogliastra, at an altitude of almost 800 m., between the limestone buttes with their slopes covered in evergreen forests

 Grotta Su Marmuri -'the marble

One of Europe's most impressive caves, located one km from Ulassai, the Cave

(Ogliastra region) is named so because of the unusual appearance of the limestone rock The beauty of the stalagmites and festoons hanging from the walls formed one hundred and fifty million years ago, thanks to the erosive force of water, is amazing, as is the majesty of its spaces. so says the guide.

Unfortunately, and disappointingly, due to given misinformation as of Oct the caves guided tour is being offered only at 11:00am and 2:30pm, so arriving at the entrance at 12:00, we had missed the earlier opportunity and it was too long to wait for the later.

Thus enjoying the drive up and the majestic vistas, were still worthwhile our drive time

The cave is a reference point for climbing and trekking enthusiasts., as the map indicates.

We the 2 small kids a that activity was

not a real option.

Thus from up the mountainous Northeast we "dove" down to the gorgeous coast of

Villasimious, where we were lucky to find

a fabulous accommodation, right on one of the greatest beaches on the island.

Villasimius Beach
